Sometimes Big K gets a little over-zealous with his garage sale hunting. Some neighbors were having a garage sale and he came home with this old sewing machine.
It's in a really pretty cabinet that is in perfect condition.
It came with the original manual and all kinds of cool little accessories. However owned this machine took great care of it.
He paid $75 for it and was so excited by his amazing find. I was a little shocked because that is much more than I like to spend on my typical Saved by Suzy pieces.
So, here's my question...what do I do with this sewing machine? Should I try to sell it as-is on Craigslist? I wonder how much it is worth. I tried to do a little research, but couldn't come up with any pricing. I don't think I should paint it because the wood is in such great condition. What do you think? It's not something I would keep. I already have a nice, modern sewing machine that I barely know how to use. I also really don't have a place for this.

ReplyDeleteI buy and sell a lot of machines and cabinets on Ebay. This machine is not very valuable or collectible. The cabinet is quite lovely, maybe a desk for a laptop? Add a mirror, instant dressing table. I've seen sewing cabinets made into sink cabinets, you have imagination, I'm sure you can come up with something useful!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it would look very nice as a desk or dressing table. It is a nice piece....
ReplyDeletewhile i agree that it would look nice as a desk or such, i think the only way for you to really recoup the cost would be to try to sell it for what he paid on craigslist. i find they aren't very valuable either, and after all the time work you will have to put into it i just don't think it is worth it. sorry!!! just want to keep it real and honest!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Too bad I don't live near you, I'd buy it and use it in my guest room. Hang a fun mirror over it, add a small tray to catch jewelry and it'd be a great writing desk/dressing table.
ReplyDeleteI would list it on CL...
I agree with those who have also said a desk or dressing table - would your girls use it for dress up or anything? Could you make it into a play kitchen for them?
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to sell it as is, I am interested. I am in Fruita, I think you are too? Hit me up smavisdavis@gmail.com,
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting. You should leave it as is - maybe clean up the wood and sell it as a desk/dresser/entry way console. It must be heavy with the machine intact.
