How cute is that fu dog thingy? I want one. It reminds me of my Asian childhood. Read on...
I have an obsession with all things bamboo right now. I haven't always felt this way. When I was a child, my family lived in Singapore. Being a small tropical island, Singapore did not have much in the way of hardwoods, thus all of our furniture was wicker or cane/bamboo. Being a rebellious know-it-all child, I thought everything my parents did was hideous, even their wicker and bamboo furniture (sorry mom and dad...I love you!). I've since seen the light and realized that bamboo is pretty cool. Wicker, not really. I've yet to see many things in wicker that don't remind me of a grandma. Feel free to prove me wrong and show me some hip wicker furniture!
So, this Friday, I'm featuring BAMBOO. I love this makeover that Centsational Girl just did:
Could that peacock blue with the bold gold hardware be anymore perfect? She also did a post entitled, what else, "Bamboozled," featuring all kinds of bamboo awesomeness.
How about these bamboo-inspired lamps that Danielle Oakey found at a yard sale for a grand total of $5?
Danielle's blog was one of the very first I started following when I discovered the world of design blogs. Speaking of garage sales, today is Friday, which means you will find me trawling the garage sale circuit.
Here are some more pretty bamboo pictures:
I LOVE that pretty blue ikat fabric along with the white...so fresh and crisp. I also like the kids' artwork.
Can I please have this sunroom?
Pops of color...LOVE!
OK, and I guess I don't hate all things wicker. This chair by West Elm isn't so bad:
What are your feelings on bamboo and/or wicker? Love? Hate? Too trendy? Too Miami retirement community?
Oooh...good post. I've been thinking about this recently. I love bamboo, but will I love it in a year? You have a personal story as to why you like bamboo - I on the other hand do not so I just wonder how long I'll love it. But speaking of...is that a stencil in that first photo? Cool! And that sunroom is sooooo pretty...happy garage sale hunting! Do they have garage sales on Friday's out there?
ReplyDeleteoh man...that pink bamboo table? I got rid of that exact table last year. It was hideously nicotine-yellow with a laminate top and I didn't have a place for it and it was taking up too much room in the garage (it came as a set with the bamboo chairs I have now in my dining room). I couldn't even pay someone to take it; I had it on Craigslist for weeks and finally put it out at the curb. If only I had vision.
