As you know, I've been on vacation and busy, busy, busy with back-to-school and my real job. I did have time to get a tiny, but cute little project done. This might be my last piece of furniture for a week or so because work is crazy!
I started off with a little ugly brown telephone-table thing. Bad blogger forgot to take before pics. Anyways, I started off priming the whole thing and painting it white. Then I taped a chevron pattern on top.
Once the chevron pattern was on, I rolled some "oops" pink paint over the top. I was so excited to peel the table off to see the pattern that I could hardly wait for the paint to dry. Ugh, I pulled the tape off and my lines weren't as crisp as I would have liked. No problem...I just did some sanding and touched it up. Does anyone have any tips on how to get nice, crisp lines using tape?
Here's the final reveal. I think this would be cute as a little bedside table or as a table to put beside a rocker in a baby girl's nursery.
You can't get away without seeing some back-to-school pics. K started 4th grade (gulp!), C is in first grade, and baby M is in preschool two half-days per week.

ReplyDeleteyour table turned out great. i love the chevron pattern.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little table. I was going to do something like this with an old wooden 'tv tray' thing we had in the shed but when I finally put my ideas to good use I realized my husband had already chucked it. Boooo!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday and thanks for having the link party :)
You are a busy lady!! And I LOVE the table - it's so cute and would be perfect in a young girl's room or nursery. My suggestion (although I'm not expert as I've only done stripes once) is to brush the paint on (using the bare minimum amount of paint to cover the tape edges - almost a dry brush) and then you can roll the rest but I think brushing over the edges of the tape should create crisper lines. If that doesn't work then you didn't get that tip from me ;)

ReplyDeleteThat table is just darling! Ugh, wish I had some advice on the tape/line thing. The painters who did our foyer used Frogger tape??!!
ReplyDeleteOh, they are so darling!!! I can't even handle my *one* little one going to preschool...I suppose I will get used to it by elementary school? I'm pretty sure my mom was over the moon when we would go back to school (I'm the oldest of 6!)...maybe I will get to that place! (c: I love the cute little make over, pink and chevron is always a winner, right?(c:

ReplyDeleteI'm still loving Chevrons!
ReplyDeleteTip advice for your lines... make sure you press your tape down really, really, really well. Then, I noticed you said you couldn't wait for the paint to dry. Don't wait. You want to paint it on and carefully remove the tape while the paint is still wet...this leaves less of a chance for bleed through since it's not sitting on top! Good luck with your future projects!
Stopped over from Miss Mustard Seed. LOVE the zig zag top and what a great oops color!
ReplyDeleteGetting CRISP tape lines is SO easy and I rarely see anyone talk about it, but once you lay your tape paint over the edges with your background color... that will bleed through but not be visible. (you do have to let it dry thats the hardest part) Then when you paint your accent color over the top the edges are already sealed. Peel your tape off as soon as you finish your last top coat and you have perfect lines and no touch up.
I just painted my first stripes in my laundry room and it worked like a charm!
how did i miss this one before??/ it is sooooo cute!!! i love the colors and of course the pattern. and the kids of course are adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is just the sweetest little table!! Great job with the design on top!
