May's Project: Paint a Dresser

One of the things on my 2012 Home Goals list was to finish Chloe's room.  A few weekends ago, my  husband picked up this dresser at a yard sale for $30.  It also came with a large mirror.

Chloe's favorite color is yellow right now.  So, of course she wants in painted yellow.  I plan on picking up a free quart of paint at Ace tomorrow.   New knobs will also update this piece.

I'm thinking about maybe trying some homemade chalk paint, made by mixing my paint with unsanded grout.  Has anyone used this technique?  What did you think?

I wasn't sure how I felt about yellow, since her room is aqua and bright pink right now.
This is a little sneak peak at what Chloe's room looks like right now.  I kind of forgot that she already has yellow in the chair fabric.

I also like how Ange used yellow and aqua in her daughter's room.  I think it will good in Chloe's room too.

Of course, I had to check Pinterest for some more yellow, pink, and aqua combos.  There are some pretty pictures of this palette.

  2. It's a very cool dresser and I think it would look awesome in yellow! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Is there a coupon for the free paint?

  3. When you get your free can of paint, ask them about the base they're offering. When I got mine from Ace a few weeks ago, they only offered the neutral base and some colors don't work as well mixed with that. Anyway, love the yellow! It would be beautiful.

Also, I've used DIY chalk paint made with calcium carbonate. I like it just fine, although I have to admit I've never used the real stuff.

  12. DON'T do THE Grout! STOP! It turns out more like chalkboard paint than chalk paint. I did my little guy's dresser in it and I hate it. I just bought some plaster of paris at HD yesterday and am hoping to repaint his dresser with that.
The yellow and aqua will be lovely together and great dresser for $30! Looking forward to this next room coming together!!

  14. First of all I can't believe that dresser and a mirror were only $30 - total score! Second I think yellow would be gorgeous - a big pop of sunshine in the room!! Love it paired with the other colors in Chloe's room. I did try the unsanded grout homemade chalk paint and I highly recommend mixing it in small batches - whatever is leftover hardens like crazy and is hard to use later. Thanks for linking this project up to before & after - can't wait to see how it comes out!!!

  15. G's room is aqua and yellow and we love it! It's so easy to add other colors like pink, orange, or green to that combo!
