O'verlays Again

Remember how I told you that O'verlays would be coming out in a Greek key pattern soon.  Well, they are heeere!  I opened my Google reader and up popped some gorgeous pics of my favorite pattern.  I thought I'd give you a few pictures:
I love the lavendar and silver combo.

The small size is amazing on a boring old IKEA Lack table.

Go here for more pictures and info.  O'verlays is also having a grand opening sale that ends on August 1st.  HURRY!

What does YOUR dream house look like?

Hi lovelies. It's Friday and the weekend has begun as we are vacationing in Steamboat Springs. As I was running along a beautiful mountain river early this morning, I thought of a fun idea for the blog. I want to do a little series of guest posts featuring your dream home.

It doesn't matter if your dream home is large and traditional

modern and glassy

a cozy cottage

It can be by the sea, in the mountains, the country, the city.
All that matters is that it represents YOUR dream home. It can even be the home you live in now.

I would love to see exterior pictures. You can show interiors or little details that you would like to have in your dream home too. Your post does not have to be elaborate. We just want to see pretty pics and a little description of why the home appeals to you. If you can't pick one home or style, show us a couple.

I will kick off the series with my dream home and I'm looking for guest posters. If you are interested (c'mon loyal readers and commenters!) in participating with a guest post, leave a comment or send me an email at suzanne_keith@msn.com and we will get it scheduled. This should be fun!

Suzy's House Party Thursday #2 - Link Up!

Hooray, I am a veteran party host now that I have thrown one House Party!  It was so fun that I've decided to try it again.  I was thrilled by the pretty links I received and I must apologize for the lack of pics for the first links.  I think I have it fixed for this week.  Keep your fingers crossed that everything runs smoothly.

First, I wanted to show you a few of my favorites from last week.  It was so hard to pick!

This "Faux Bois" nighstand from Bird and Branch Redesign is so unique and pretty.  Actually, her entire bedroom looks gorgeous.
I always love quatrefoil, especially in this pretty aqua from Kayboo Creations.

How about this sweet little table and adorable chairs from Hello Newman's?

I am dying over this decoupaged map buffet from Flea Market Trixie.

Hmmm...can you sense a theme?  If you guessed that I love blue, you're right!

O'verlays

If you have any interest in design blogs, I'm sure you have heard of O'verlays.  They are a new product from one of my favorite bloggers, Danika Herrick of Gorgeous Shiny Things and her design partner Cheryle Rhuda.  Basically, it's premade fretwork that can be painted and attached to all sorts of things, but particularly IKEA furniture.  The possibilities are endless.

They can make the ultimate before and after on a cheapie IKEA Rast dresser:

Here are some more O'verlays projects:
This is the O'liva pattern attached to an IKEA Malm dresser.  Doesn't it make this basic dresser so much prettier?  How about that awesome wallpaper? And the white, aqua, and orange?  I love everything about this picture.

Here's the O'livia all dressed up in gold.

But, my absolute favorite O'verlays project I've seen is this amazing console made by Bri at Me, You and a Weiner.

BEFORE:

AFTER:
Isn't it so cool?

Maybe my little dresser I posted about yesterday needs O'verlays instead of drawer pulls?  O'verlays is coming out with new patterns soon, one of which is Greek key.  I might just have to try it, especially since Greek key is one of my favorite patterns.
I promise I won't show anymore pics of that dresser until I do something new to it!  I'm sure you are getting tired of hearing about and seeing that thing.

Until next time!

Midcentury Modern Console

Thank you for your comments on my post "Yay or Neigh?".  You all had such great ideas that I can't wait to implement!  I can paint pretty pieces or buy a nice mirror, but it's hard for me to really "decorate" or put everything together so it looks good.  I can use all of the help I can get, so I really appreciated your comments.

Some of you commented on the console table in the post.  I've had this midcentury modern piece in my garage for a while.  I'm sure you've seen these on Craigslist or at garage sales.  I forgot to take a before pic, but this is basically what it looked like, although not nearly in as pristine condition:

I had originally hoped to strip and refinish the wood to something like this:

The wood was in terrible shape, so I had to paint it.  I couldn't decide on a color.  I've had this Martha Stewart Plumage in my garage waiting to be painted on an accent wall in my bedroom.  But, since that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, I decided to try it on the console and I like the way it turned out.  The cream color is an oops paint I picked up at Home Depot.  It's a ceiling paint, so it has a thicker consistency and seemed to leave more brushstrokes.  I'm not sure a ceiling paint is the way to go on furniture.  I finished the piece with a couple of coats of glossy spray-on polyacrylic.

I'm considering adding the gold drawer pulls in the inspiration picture.  What do you think?

Here's where I spent my weekend:
Sleeping in this:

We had a great time just being together as a family.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!

Yay or Neigh?

I stopped in to Ross yesterday and saw a HUGE painting for only $60.  I was drawn to the bold colors and the semi-abstract horse design.  I bought it to bring home and see what Big K thought and to see how it looks in our house.

Here's what the wall looked like before:
This wall is kind of boring and washed out.  The mirror blends right into the wall.  I could just paint the mirror a bolder color.

Here's the new painting:

I can't decide if I really love it or if I only bought it because of the price.  What do you think?  Any ideas on how to improve this area?  Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Linky Time! Suzy's House Party Thursday

I'm so excited that you decided to attend my first link party, Suzy's House Party Thursday. I know there are so many great projects going on in Blogland and we like to share our hard work with others, so here's a place to party and link up what you've been working on.

I love chairs, so if you have a great chair makeover, consider linking it. However, feel free to show any other decor/furniture project.  Here are a few of my chair makeovers:

I'm a little nervous about my first party, I hope some of you decide to "attend." The rules are simple:
  • Link up your home decor project.  Pretty much anything to do with you house is fine.
  • It would be great if you provided a link back to my blog.  A text link is fine, or feel free to grab my "Saved by Suzy" button from the sidebar.  The more people that know about the party and participate the better for all of us.
  • Be sure to share the love and leave comments for others.

Friends, I'm so sorry but there are no thumbnail pics to go along with this week's House Party.  I had a little technical difficulty setting up the party.  But, if you come back next week, I promise I will have pics for next week's House Party.  Please don't let this stop you from visiting some of the links.  I have seen them all and they are fabulous.

I think I've fixed it.  If you have a pic to link up (and who doesn't???), just add it to the second linky party below.  For some reason, the first one only allows text links.

Ballard Knock-Off Chalkboard

Remember:  I'm hosting my first linky party on Thursday.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you have been working on.  Please join the party on Thursday.

I don't like to pay full price for anything.  I always wait for things to go on sale or try to make them myself.  That's why I love a good knock off.

I like these Acanthus Message Boards from Ballard Designs, but there is no way I would pay $150-$250 for one of them:

These would be so easy to make.  I just needed the right frame.

The other day I stopped at a garage sale.  It was a little old farmhouse at the base of the mountain stuffed FULL of things.  I almost felt claustrophobic in the place.  As I was minding my own business, checking out the place, a lady starts talking to me.  Apparently, the house was in foreclosure and she had just broken up with its owner.  Can you say TMI?!?!?  I didn't really know how to respond, so I just grabbed this gold frame for $2 and scurried back to my car.

I had to go to Home Depot to get a board cut for another project I'm working on.  I had them cut a leftover piece of the board to fit into my new frame.

When I got home, I wiped down the frame.  I initially thought I would have to repaint it gold, but once it was clean, it looked great.  Next, I primed the board and then gave it a few layers of Rustoleum spray chalkboard paint.  I was planning on gluing the board into the frame, but the board fits in there so tightly, no adhesive was needed.

I hung her up in my back hallway near the pantry.  I think it'll be a great place to write lists, reminders, etc. as long as I can get it away from the kiddos!  Because I was able to use things I already had, this project only cost me $2.00.  I think it looks much more expensive than that.

K's Room Inspiration

Remember:  I'm hosting my first linky party on Thursday.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you have been working on.  Please join the party on Thursday.

I can't show you any pictures of my house right now because it is in complete chaos.  I have a bunch of half-finished projects plus I've been having so much fun hanging out with the kids, that cleaning has definitely taken a back seat this summer.

So, instead of showing you anything in my house, I will show you some pretty pictures that serve as the inspiration for K's room.  She wants it to be blue and green and we already have the desk:

Without further ado, here's some blue and green inspiration:

These canvasses would be an easy DIY-project.

Here's another project I could  do, my 9-year old could probably help make it too:

More chevron love:

I have always wanted to attempt an upholstered headboard.  How about this one?

My daughter likes all of the pattern here:

I prefer the more subtle and am dying over the striped curtains:

This just looks so crisp and clean to me:

After revisiting all of these photos, I think I'm in love with this color scheme: blue, green, and white.  How about you?

Summertime

I can't believe that school starts in just over a month!  But, what a busy month it will be.  Here's what we have in store:

Camping here:

Vega Lake, Grand Mesa, Colorado

A long weekend here:

Steamboat, Colorado

A girls' weekend running a half-marathon here:

Provo, Utah

A mini-family reunion here:

This is my parent's house in Breckenridge.  It is a great home with a hot tub, kid's fort and it's close to the slopes.  They rent it out.  So, if you are looking for a place to rent in Colorado, just click on the picture for more info.

In between all of this vacationing, we also have VBS, swimming lessons, gymnastics, heaps of laundry, and work, work, work.  My heart is racing just thinking about everything!

Remember to come back on Thursday to link up your awesome projects at my first linky party!
