February Project

My friend Lisa at Shine Your Light hosts a monthly before and after party...post your "before" pics at the beginning of the month and your "after" pics of the same project at the end of the month.

Shine Your Light

I have lots of things that I want to accomplish this month.  Tops on the list is finishing my daughter Mary's room.  I also have a much less fun project that needs to be finished and I am using Lisa's party as motivation.

One of my house goals for 2012 is to repaint my living, dining, kitchen, and hallways.  So far, I've almost finished the front hall.  I need to get cracking on this project.  It bugs me to look at half-painted walls!

There is no way that I will be able to finish all of the painting this month, but I would like to finish the walls, trim and maybe door in my back hall.

Here's part of the area:
I need to do some general beautifying in this area too: maybe replace the rug, clean up the bulletin board, do something with the doggie door, etc.

I'm also considering painting the door out to the the garage (the one with the doggie door) black to match my other exterior doors, like this one.

But then would I have to paint the door on the right (into the laundry room) and the door on the left (into the pantry) black as well? What do you think?

What are you up to this month?

  1. Ugh, I'm doing the same thing right now. I feel like my body is replacing its need for oxygen with paint fumes.
I think that you could get away with painting that one door black. If it were one of the other doors it wouldn't make sense but because it's at the end of the hall I think it would work. Have fun.

  2. I think you could do the one door also.....just the entry doors into the house. But what the heck do I know? I'm interested to see how other people weigh in on that one. Thanks for linking up to Before & After, Suzy!!! Happy painting.

  4. I love black doors. I say go for it. I convinced my husband that black was the way to go, but I could not convince him that it tops the very, very long project list.

  5. I can't wait to see which paint colors you choose. I would paint the exterior door black first and see if you like it with the other white doors. Painting them black later is an easy thing to do. I painted my exterior doors black and love them.

  6. Hi Suzy. I'm loving your idea for black doors. It really is great for high traffic areas. Our front and back doors are both black for this very reason! Okay, now as far as the other door to the right...I'm not sure what color you are planning on painting the walls but I recently had two clients where we painted an accent wall, door, and trim all the same color. It turned out great. One we used a happy apple green, and the other we painted a slate grey. Hopefully I'm making sense...but what if you painted the back door black as you have planned, and then painted the long wall, door, {and possibly trim} a differing color? Just a thought? Can't wait to check out more of your blog. I'm now going to check out your 1 room challenge progress. I'm so slow to stay updated on everyone. But am enjoying catching up this evening! Best to ya!!

  7. I'm looking forward to seeing what you did with this area tomorrow! Are you painting like a crazy lady right now getting ready? ;) I love the back of my exterior doors black, hides the dirt and dog prints!

  8. With a lot of painting project left to do, you'd need to have a working buddy. This makes any work faster and easier. By the way, have you painted all your doors black? Or a different color for each?
