I love a chair makeover. They are usually short and sweet and I get to use my two favorite things, paint AND fabric. They don't take a lot of work, but provide a lot of impact. I'm sure that 99.99% of you know how to do a simple chair makeover, but for that .01% tht might not know how, I'll show you.
I recently refinished this desk for K:
But, she still needed a chair. Luckily, I had these sitting in my garage:
I started by flipping the chair over and removing the screws that held the seat to the frame.
Next, I lightly sanded the chair and sprayed a light coat of primer. As this was drying, I took the seat and laid it on the fabric I was going to use to cover it. Using the seat as a pattern, I cut around it, being sure to leave enough fabric to wrap around the seat:
Next, pull the fabric tightly around the seat and go to town with your staple gun. Try to make sure your pattern stays straight and even.
By now, your primer should be dry on the chair. I gave the chair two coats of paint. Let that dry and then added some spray poly. I let the chair dry for about 24-hours and then rescrewed the seat back on and brought it into K's room.
No, that is not dog poo:
Once again, dog poo bags to the rescue. Here's a little tip, if you need to take a break, but don't feel like washing your paintbrush, just wrap it in plastic (dog poo bags are always in my garage) and it will be all ready for you when you are ready to come back to painting.
K got in on the painting action:
Home decorating makes a girl dog tired:
Now, you should be ready to go out and makeover your own chair. Here's the exciting news, Saved by Suzy will host her very first link party on Thursday and I would love for you to link up any chair projects you might have made. Be sure to stop by on Thursday!!
