Fun and Colorful Living Room

Several weeks ago, Billie linked up her family room  to my House Party.  I had never visited Billie's blog before, but was pleasantly surprised by her colorful and fun family room makeover.  I thought it deserved its own post here on Saved by Suzy.

One of the things that most impressed me about this room, is that it seems like a "real" family could live here and be comfortable.  While I love the room, it doesn't have the unlived-in, perfect look of some rooms found in shelter mags.

Also, the room was done on a tight budget.  The sofa is a Craigslist find.  Why can't my Craigslist have such awesome stuff?  They also did the board and batten themselves.

Billie made all of the pillows herself using placemats she purchased on clearance.  She just opened the seams, stuffed some batting in, and sewed them closed.  Genius!

She painted the artwork herself!  It pulls together all of the colors in the room.

Hey, I just spotted my new favorite book on her tray! The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond's "From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels."

Isn't it amazing what a little spray paint can do?  I would have been a bit wary of mixing aqua, apple green, yellow, and red all in the same room.  But, here it works and looks great.  Sometimes taking risks can pay off!

All of the images are from the blog Billie Mitchell Photography.  You might want to visit her blog for some great photography tips too!

It's such a fun room - I love it. That sofa is a great find. I'll have to go over to read more b/c I'm also curious about that collage at the top left. I love her DIY painting too.
